A forest fairytale is a project from upper secondary school, for the course Digital Creativity 2

The purpose of the images is to tell a story of escaping reality into the fairylands of books. For me, books and stories have always been very important and inspiring, and I wanted to create a small set of images based on these magical things. I mainly worked on these images from home, as the school had just (physically) closed down due to The Pandemic. It was a very hectic semester, with many projects to end and with new ways of working. In short, books, games, and the fantasy genre were my main inspiration sources for this.

For this project, I used both stock images ( for example, I don’t have any wolves around me, even less, arctic ones, sadly) and images shot by myself. I spent a day photographing in my favorite forest, and another day photographing book pages swinging from the ceiling in the studio. And after that, it was time to edit. When working from home, I truly relied on finding information by myself and improving my techniques with little guidance, however, I think it gave results. If you are curious about my progress, feel free to check out my earlier artwork from Gutegymnasiet, there is a button below.

These images can tell many stories. The books with the burned pages, for me, represent another world or a new beginning. Perhaps someone sees it as escaping. A hectic and chaotic life into tranquility, maybe by reading a book? Or is it an entrance to an epic battle, riding through the battlefield on the giant, artic, wolf? And the horses, are they just horses, or are they spirits of forest gods?

For Digital Creativity 1, the pre-course for 2, I worked on another set of images, with the theme of Renaissance painting combined with cats and space. If you are curious to see my progress from 2018/2019, press the button to see what my artwork looked like in the schoolyear before.
